Veterans Initiatives

Oklahoma Contemporary serves as a nexus for our creative community and actively works to identify ways to make meaningful connections between veterans and contemporary art and artists. Ten percent of Oklahoma's adult population are veterans of the U.S. military. By engaging in creative practice, veterans discover new ways to connect with each other and their community. The arts are proven to build resilience, strengthen coping skills and improve self-esteem and well-being. Through their own voice and creations, veteran artists can help everyone to better understand the military experience. Oklahoma Contemporary's program employs professional teaching artists to support veterans in the technical, intellectual and creative aspects of developing their artistic practice.
