The Director of Finance plays a key role in the continued growth and evolution of a progressive and expanding cultural organization. Reporting to the General Manager and a member of the senior management team, the Director of Finance will be responsible for overseeing and providing leadership to overall finance and accounting functions, strategy and business planning, and compliance.
Internally, the Director of Finance will also serve as a thought partner to the Director and General Manager and as a critical member of a small leadership team responsible for strategic decision making. The Director of Finance will work closely with the Director, General Manager, Finance Committee and leadership team to strengthen overall organizational capacity and impact.
Essential Job Functions
Finance
- Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the General Manager and Director.
- Monitor progress and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.
- Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
- Provide overall financial oversight and monitoring, including implementation of sound fiscal management practices and internal controls.
- Manage and oversee monthly accounting processes, including bookkeeping, payroll management, invoicing and financial tracking of restricted grants. In this capacity, manage relationships with key external vendors, including outsourced accounting/auditing firms.
- Maintain a robust financial management/reporting system (Blackbaud Financial Edge).
- Ensure the billing and collection schedule of pledge payments and other receivables are adhered to and financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
- Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; develop financial reporting materials; and oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting.
- Coordinate and lead the annual audit process; liaise with external auditors.
- Provide staff support to the Finance Committee at Board of Trustees’ meetings.
Compliance
- Oversee risk management and legal activities, including business insurance; memorandums of agreement; contracts; leases, and other legal documents and agreements.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, notably privacy and data security laws.
Strategy and Business Planning
- Work in partnership with the Director, General Manager and leadership team to implement new strategic initiatives in response to an increasing demand for services and/or programming.
- Work in partnership with the Director, General Manager and leadership team to develop a strategic plan for Oklahoma Contemporary. Provide financial input for all strategic planning processes.
Essential Job Requirements
- Qualifications include a minimum BA or BS in Accounting, Management or Finance. MBA and/or CPA preferred.
- A minimum of five years of relevant financial, supervisory, strategic and board interaction experience and a strong understanding of nonprofit accounting best practices are required.
- Applicants should demonstrate a strong track record in all aspects of financial management along with keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills that support and enable sound decision making. These skills must translate into an ability to communicate financial concepts to, and effectively collaborate with, colleagues, trustees and supporters.
- Fluency in Spanish or Vietnamese is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience working in a cultural organization preferred.
- Essential personal qualities include integrity, credibility and dedication to the mission of Oklahoma Contemporary (to encourage artistic expression in all its forms through education, exhibitions, and performance).
