The golden sun gives off a radiant gleam, twinkling stars create stunning patterns and intricate shadows adorn the walls and floor of Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center's Eleanor Kirkpatrick Main Gallery on a December afternoon.
With its title taken from the first lyric in the iconic musical "Oklahoma!," the exhibition "Bright Golden Haze" spotlights forward-thinking works exploring the medium and manifestations of light. But the sun is setting Jan. 4 on the inaugural exhibit in Oklahoma Contemporary's new $30 million downtown home, even if organizers didn't get as many opportunities as planned to allow visitors to bask in its glow.
"For Oklahoma Contemporary, this is certainly the most ambitious exhibition organized in the institution's history, and it's been a show many years in the making. The first inklings of the idea date back to 2016," said Artistic Director Jeremiah Matthew Davis.
"A large-scale group exhibition featuring works by artists who live around the world ... featuring paintings, large-scale installations, video works, works from a variety of different media from glass to LEDs, is like nothing probably ever organized in the history of the state."
