The director of education, Jaime Thompson supports Oklahoma Contemporary’s vision as an outward-facing, visitor-centric contemporary arts center. She brings more than 11 years of expertise in museum education and leadership. In addition to her expansive work in interpretation and public programs, Jaime also has a background in studio art and is excited by the potential of the Studio School to create new learning and make opportunities for aspiring and established artists.

Previous to this position, Jaime was the learning and programs director for the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati. Her role included curating a floor of interactive art created by contemporary artists focused on education called the “UnMuseum.” There she championed ways to make contemporary exhibitions relatable and accessible to all audiences through numerous methods: compelling programming for all ages, hands-on experiences, relatable interpretive materials, community building, exploring the maker’s processes and creating an inviting holistic experience both in and outside of the museum.

In 2019, she was elected to the national position of Museum Division director-elect for the National Art Education Association. Her role included planning an annual one-day pre-conference for museum educators focused on current trends. Since 2017, she has held a seat on the board of Wave Pool, a Cincinnati-based social practice entity that strives to create dynamic relationships between the community and artists. Additional leadership roles include alumni of the School for Arts Leaders, alumni of Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce YP program and Museum Chair for the Ohio Arts Education Association.

Jaime holds a Master of Arts in Art History from the University of Cincinnati and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Arts, Education and Art History. Born in Missouri, she has dedicated her career to Midwestern contemporary art institutions and their audiences and is excited to call Oklahoma City home.
