In her role as curatorial assistant, Kaylan Roach provides support to Oklahoma Contemporary's curatorial staff, including assisting with research, editing exhibition-related texts, preparing exhibition proposals, presentations, texts and exhibitions, as well as assisting with installation and public programs.
Prior to joining Oklahoma Contemporary, Kaylan interned at Studio Gallery DC in Washington, D.C., and at ARTSPACE at Untitled in Oklahoma City, filling administrative roles and performing curatorial and archival-related tasks. She also served as front of house and programs manager at the 2021 Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute, where she assisted in organizing programs and events and served as housing counselor for a group of young aspiring artists.
Kaylan occasionally works as a server and a bartender at Fassler Hall and Dust Bowl, where she enjoys contributing to the growing restaurant and entertainment industry of Midtown. She earned her bachelor’s degree in art history and classics from Sarah Lawrence College, N.Y., and is in the final months of her master’s degree in art history and museum studies at the City College of New York.
After splitting her time between Oklahoma and New York from 2016-2020, Kaylan realized that her passion lies in the tight-knit arts community of Oklahoma City. She is thrilled to be working at Oklahoma Contemporary where she can fulfill her passion for helping the arts community in her hometown flourish.
