
Director of Communications Lori M. Brooks is a strong, experienced leader in strategic communications, marketing and nonprofit management. She and her team develop and implement Oklahoma Contemporary’s marketing; communications; print, digital and social content; media relations; brand; and advertising strategies to enhance Oklahoma Contemporary's impact, increase its visibility and broaden local and national awareness of the arts center.
Lori has a background in public relations, marketing, journalism and higher education. Her resume includes The Albuquerque Tribune and The Seattle Times, director of communications for a college at the University of Oklahoma, and work with collegiate journalists and media professionals nationwide. As associate executive director of the nonprofit College Media Association, Lori planned and executed marketing, branding, public relations, awards and events for the organization, including management of two national conventions, workshops and other educational opportunities.
Lori served as associate director and features adviser at OU Student Media, where she oversaw features publications and students. Her staffs created the top-ranked Sooner yearbook and multiple niche products for a variety of audiences. She also handled Student Media's recruiting, marketing and communications and managed much of the department's strategic planning.
A mentor and coach for her staff and other departments, Lori has a depth and breadth of skills in print, online and social media as well as brand management. She is a born storyteller – who has taught brand storytelling workshops at the National Arts Marketing Project Conference and for Americans for the Arts – known for keen attention to style and detail.
Lori volunteers with Lyric Theater, Other Options Food Pantry, WildCare Oklahoma and Oliver and Friends Sanctuary and Rescue. She is a first-generation college graduate who holds a bachelor’s degree in news communication from OU.
