Rae Stone leads programing for tours and schools at Oklahoma Contemporary. She oversees a team of gallery guides, the front line in helping the arts center's audience understand its exhibitions. She also manages school programs, which include student visits along with professional development and support for educators. Rae works to ensure learners from 2 to 82 can walk away with a better understanding of the art and artists at Oklahoma Contemporary.
With deep roots in Oklahoma City, Rae pursued fine arts at the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 2016 with a BFA in studio art with an emphasis in painting. Before starting at Oklahoma Contemporary, Rae taught art for five years at a local high school. Adventures and mishaps abounded in Rae’s time as a teacher, but seeing students' faces light up as they discovered their creative potential is something she continues to cherish.
Rae maintains a strong studio practice with a studio in OKC — in her off time, she grows her abstract language in large-scale, mixed-media paintings. Her work combines organic flowing shapes with hard lines to layer deep peaceful movement across the canvas. Rae loves a good book, hangs with friends and family, and checks out the art museums in any city she visits.
