Work with artist Wesley Kramer to create and print woodcuts! This class introduces the basics of traditional relief printing, including carving techniques, how to operate a press, printing by hand and editioning. You will begin with black inks, and then progress to multiblock processes and, finally, reductive techniques. Learn how to compare different inks, carving materials and different types of wood. Wouldn’t you rather be woodcut printing (instead of reading bad puns)?
For imagery inspiration, check out the prints in upcoming exhibition, The Art of Food: From the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation.
Open Studio time is included with registration. Open Studio allows currently enrolled students to work on their projects in Oklahoma Contemporary’s studios outside of class meetings. Availability varies weekly, and times are posted outside each studio.
