Four-Week Class | Drawing to Calm Down

Prerequisites: Beginners welcome! No experience necessary.

Reduce stress, increase mindfulness and improve your drawing skills. This observational drawing course focuses on how drawing increases calmness and helps focus your mind on the present moment. Each class includes mindfulness techniques and drawing exercises, such as blind contour, working with positive and negative space, and compositional studies. Experiment with different mark-making methods and various materials like pen and India ink, watercolor and charcoal. Subject matter varies weekly and includes still life, portraiture and even sound! Improve your drawing and your living skills by learning how to calm and focus yourself during day-to-day stresses. Open Studio* time is included with registration.

*Open Studio allows currently enrolled students to work on their projects in Oklahoma Contemporary’s studios outside of class meetings. Times vary weekly and may be booked two weeks in advance. See Open Studio Times here.
