Oklahoma Contemporary

Class

Workshop | Composition and Notan

In this workshop, students will seek to simplify compositions using notans, a Japanese term meaning “light and dark.” Together, the class will practice reducing images to two and three values in order to create strong compositional ideas to apply to larger works. Students will also explore the six major types of rectangles commonly used by artists to compose images. In addition, the instructor will also discuss how to use Photoshop as a tool to aid in compositional study.
