Class

Eight-Week Class | Make Fancy Masks

Learn the art of stage-quality papier-mache mask making!

Each student will cast their face using plaster embedded gauze and make a plaster positive of their own face on which to build perfectly fitting masks. Learn the fundamentals of mask making and create a character mask of your own design. You will be instructed on how to build depth, add armatures and use mixed media to bring your character to life.

Instructor Martha Coates Donahoo learned this heritage craft during their apprenticeship with the Marin Shakespeare Company from a legacy mask maker and after two decades of practice is delighted to have the opportunity to share the craft with you!

• Download your course syllabus and materials list here.

• If one class is postponed due to weather or unforeseen instructor circumstances, the rain date is December 7.

Open Studio time is included with registration. Open Studio allows currently enrolled students to work on their projects in Oklahoma Contemporary’s studios outside of class meetings. Availability varies weekly, and times are posted outside each studio.
