Black horror films and TV -- such as Us, Get Out and Lovecraft Country -- have a lot of powerful, distinct intersections with Black history. This course will unpack racial identities, the historical terrain of segregation, sundown towns and the red summer, cultures of power, and the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. This course is instructed by Autumn Brown, who is a doctoral candidate in Social Foundations of Education at Oklahoma State University. She has published articles and book chapters on Black women's embodiment and education, with two chapters coming out this year about the history of Douglass High School in Oklahoma City and doing biographical research on Black women teacher activists. Registration closes Sunday, May 9 at 11:59 p.m.
