Oklahoma Contemporary

Class

Class | Intermediate Hand Building - Tuesday Evening

This class will cover how to hand build lidded forms with the possibility of moving on to spouted forms. Surface treatments will be discussed and demonstrated, and students should perform at least two of the following: piercing, carving, sgraffito, mishima, slip trail and resist/etch. Students will record their sketches of forms and decoration in a sketchbook, which will be discussed regularly. Altering techniques — including darting and paddling — will be introduced after a few weeks of building. Critiques will be informally woven throughout the course, with a final group critique at the end. The instructor will work one-on-one to help students develop their ideas and concepts. At the end of the 10 weeks, students will present their three best pieces completed with surface decoration.
