Eight-Week Class | Frame Loom Weaving

Learn to weave beautiful wall hangings in this class, open to all levels (from beginner to experienced weaver). Beginners learn how to brainstorm ideas, choose fibers and practice fundamental stitches and finishing techniques. Group discussions offer encouragement, inspiration and feedback. By the end of the course, beginners will have created three wall hangings. Open Studio* time is included with registration.

Intermediate and advanced students experiment with complex stitches and learn historic and contemporary fiber designs. They explore traditional Navajo, Guatemalan, Peruvian, Kenyan, Scandinavian and Moroccan designs while understanding how each culture valued and utilized different methods. By the end of the course, intermediate and advanced weavers will have created four wall hangings.

How do I know if I am an intermediate weaver or an advanced weaver?
To be considered intermediate or advanced, you must have taken a prior frame loom weaving course. You should also understand plain weave, rya knots and soumak and be comfortable warping a loom.

*Open Studio allows currently enrolled students to work on their projects in Oklahoma Contemporary’s studios outside of class meetings. Times vary weekly and may be booked two weeks in advance. See Open Studio Times here.
