Movement

The third floor of Oklahoma Contemporary’s main building is dedicated to performing arts and serves as a creative hub for dance, theater, music, film and culture. The Christian Kessee Founders Hall Dance Studio supports kinesthetic explorations through classes, workshops and opportunities for independent inquiry.

Four-Week Class | Basics of Dance

Whether you danced years ago or this is your first time in the studio, you are welcome here — join us to study and learn the fundamentals of ballet, modern, jazz and contemporary dance. Each week will introduce a new style, its history, famous choreographers and dancers, how it's represented in the media and movement exploration. This is the perfect introductory class for beginners of any age. Ballet and jazz shoes are recommended but not required. Dancers can go barefoot or wear socks as a substitute. Students will have the opportunity to practice independently in the Dance Studio between class meetings. Registration for this course closes on Sunday, July 25 at 11:59 p.m.

Looking to learn new skills and get in shape after a year of quarantine? Discover the basics of ballet in this eight-week course that addresses movement fundamentals, body awareness, somatic/sensory exploration and working together to create new movement sequences. Taught by a professional ballet performer and educator, this course is open to older teens and adults seeking to take their first steps in creative movement or those looking to explore a new dance genre. Dancers can go barefoot or wear socks as a substitute. Students will have the opportunity to practice independently in the Dance Studio between classes. Registration closes on Sunday, June 27 at 11:59 p.m.
