Go behind the scenes of your new arts center with architect Rand Elliott
Oklahoma Contemporary was fewer than 48 hours away from its grand opening celebration when leadership made the tough but necessary decision to postpone in the name of public health and safety. We've worked hard in the months since to carry out our mission at a distance with digital programming like our #StudioInPlace and #AtHomeArt series, illuminating interviews with Bright Golden Haze and Shadow on the Glare artists, Slow TV at-home chill sessions, Studio Visit livestreams and a whole lot more.
Despite all this connection in the virtual space, there's no replacing the experience of engaging with creative work in a state-of-the-art building specifically designed for that purpose. That's why we're debuting a special behind-the-scenes video series taking you inside our new home with architect Rand Elliott. Check in each week as he walks future visitors through the new space, sharing stories and insights that will enrich the experience when you're finally able to visit for yourself. This is your arts center. You belong here. It was made for you.
Dive into the first installment below — in which you'll learn about the history surrounding the building site, along with a look at the creative process through Elliott's own sketchbooks — and be sure to check in next week, when Elliott will offer a unique look into the place, purpose and poetics of the new Oklahoma Contemporary.
