Like everything else, post-Thanksgiving shopping is looking a little different this year. With many of us staying home to curb the spread of COVID-19, the usual tradition of snagging deals in line at department stores and small businesses needs to be reconsidered. So instead of the usual Black Friday swarm, why not celebrate "Bright Friday" online with your new arts center?

Whether you're trying to find that perfect gift for a creative kid or looking to spruce up your work-from-home space, Shop Contemporary at our new home in downtown Oklahoma City has got you covered.

"I want to have pieces that are truly unique to us — things you can’t find in other shops around the city," said Visitor Experience and Retail Manager Garrett Colton. "And I don't want to feel kitschy, either. You know, the same old thing."

Colton and his team took this mission to heart, packing the store's modest 140 square feet with products you won't find anywhere else in the Oklahoma City metro. "We’ll feature the stuff you might find in New York or LA or wherever else," Colton said.

Our doors may currently be closed on the recommendation of Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt, but you can browse and buy from Shop Contemporary's full inventory online in the web store. Before you start filling up your cart, check out a few items that have us particularly excited for the holiday gift-giving season — whatever it looks like.

Place your order before Dec. 1 and save 25 percent.

Little Sun solar lamps, designed by Bright Golden Haze artist Olafur Eliasson, provide premium solar products to communities around the world.

Little Sun Solar Lamp | $28

For more Bright Golden Haze-inspired goodness, look no further than the Little Sun solar lamp. In 2012, Bright Golden Haze artist Olafur Eliasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen took the artist's social mission into a new space by producing these unique sun-powered lights designed to "raise global awareness of the need for equal access to energy and light," providing clean, affordable energy to communities without access to electricity. Each sale of Little Sun solar-powered lamps brings light to someone living without power. Order today and brighten someone's world.

Local art | Prices vary

As your community arts center, wouldn't be holding up our end of the bargain if we didn't include plenty of local makers in our retail store. From exclusive, handmade terra cotta planters by Wills Brewer and richly textured ceramic objects by Simphiwe Mbunyuza, to a collaboration tote bag with The Cauldron Press of OKC's Meta Flop Collective and more, you'll find plenty of local flavor in the art department.

Looking for a local print? Snag a signed edition of OKC artist Matt Goad's illustration of our new home. This colorful composition graces our admission tickets, and you can take home a limited run (100 printed) of the work — signed by the artist and printed locally on Hahnemuhle German Etching, acid-free paper. Want to get it framed? We'll hook you up with a discount code for our recommended local framer.

This stylish beverage container will get you 10 percent off your pour-over coffee order across the lobby at Café Contemporary, making it the gift that keeps on giving.
