Tensegrity, created by Rhode Island-based art and design studio Pneuhaus, aimed to recontextualize the properties of textiles and air. Comprised of steel, cables and hardware, its structural form appeared to levitate, seemingly floating without support, yet sturdily bound together.

Pneuhaus’ objective is to explore visual experiences by experimenting with space, light, color and sound to encourage curiosity and wonder through inflatable installations. The term “tensegrity” was coined by architect Buckminster Fuller, a phenomenon in which he observed structural strength in nature created through a network of tensioned parts. This experimental way of building stability sparked a revolution in the arts and sciences. Both Pneuhaus and Tensegrity’s foundational principles incorporate dynamic and new structural ways of creating.
