
Throughout the year, expert Studio School instructors present classes and workshops in painting, drawing, printmaking and design for students of all levels. Students work with industry-standard equipment and materials, such as professional painting and drawing easels, lighting and an etching printmaking press.

Four-Week Class | Watercolor: Cake! Cake! Cake!

Learn to paint with watercolor by looking at cakes and other decadent desserts. Feeling celebratory? Come paint cakes! Feeling sad? Come paint cakes — and then eat cake. What we’re saying is, cake solves a lot of problems. This class is perfect for beginning painters and beginning cake eaters ... as well as those who have been painting or eating cake for a long, long time.

Four-Week Class | Watercolor: Cacti and Succulents!

Learn watercolor while spending time staring at plump succulents and cool cacti. This class is perfect for beginners or experienced watercolor painters. Ditch your OKC reality, and pretend your life is Joshua Tree dreamy. After four weeks, those pet-hair tumbleweeds in your hallway won’t testify to your slovenly ways, but rather serve as evidence of your desert-life transformation.

Four-Week Class | Printmaking Experimentation: Monotypes and More

Join artist and honored educator Kathleen Blake and experiment with monotype printmaking and various mark-making techniques. Learn how to use an etching press, and create one image from multiple plates. You’ll also learn how to roll and wipe ink and how to utilize registration for multiple runs. The class uses Akua non-toxic colored inks that easily clean up with water. Leave class with many prints!

Prerequisites: Beginners welcome! No experience necessary.
Artist and instructor and Chris Brizzard believes that anyone can learn to draw if they are taught the correct way. Join this fun and supportive class to learn basic drawing principles, such as shape, proportion, blocking in forms and depicting light and shadow. If you start the class not knowing how to draw, you will end the class drawing from life!

Eight-Week Class | Printmaking: Woodcuts

Work with artist Wesley Kramer to create and print woodcuts! This class introduces the basics of traditional relief printing, including carving techniques, how to operate a press, printing by hand and editioning. You will begin with black inks, and then progress to multiblock processes and, finally, reductive techniques. Learn how to compare different inks, carving materials and different types of wood. Wouldn’t you rather be woodcut printing (instead of reading bad puns)?
