Throughout the year, expert Studio School instructors present classes and workshops in painting, drawing, printmaking and design for students of all levels. Students work with industry-standard equipment and materials, such as professional painting and drawing easels, lighting and an etching printmaking press.

Tuition for multi-week courses does not include materials. When signing up for a class, all students agree to abide by the policies set forth in the Student Handbook.

This beginner-friendly oil painting class teaches skills of blocking-in, separating light from shadow, setting up proper value relationships, getting the light effect, color relationships and more.

This is an advanced drawing class, previous drawing instruction such as Creative Drawing, Beginning Drawing, or equivalent is required.

Beginners welcome!

Escape into color, pattern, and geometric forms! Work with artist Whitney Batres to learn the basics of traditional gouache and color theory while making paintings inspired by textile patterns! Learn to mix colors, compose color palettes and draft geometric compositions!

No experience necessary! Join artist Isa Rodriguez to get unstuck and be more creative. There are as many ways to draw as there are people who want to draw. In this class, you’ll practice drawing techniques like gesture, contour, scribbling (yes, scribbling is drawing), tracing, collage, automatic drawing and other stuff.

Eight-Week Class | Practice Practice: How to Keep Creating

F25 Practice Practice

Calling all artists, creatives, people who want to make and people who are afraid to make! Stop worrying and start making!

Award-winning artists Isa Rodriguez and Dylan Cale Jones will help you change your habits, find collaborators, avoid burnout, and enjoy creating again. This class brings together a community of brilliant, weird, funny, insightful artists who will support you through the highs and lows of building a creative practice that fits YOU.

What is Practice Practice?
Practice Practice is a community-based project that helps creative people build balanced, resilient practices so that they can keep making their art. The project was co-founded by artist/educators Isa Rodriguez and Dylan Cale Jones, and has received grants from The Andy Warhol Foundation and OVAC. They are inaugural Artists in Residence at Studio School in 2025.

• Students will purchase the Practice Practice: How To Keep Creating ($30) workbook on the first day. Venmo, Paypal, cash, and credit cards are accepted.
