Eight-Week Class | Creative Writing: Write A Short Story!

No class May 29. Last class will be on June 5.

Join us to brainstorm, have fun and learn how to craft a short story. This supportive class teaches you how to generate characters (base them on your mother), create a setting (pick a planet) and outline a story arc (my mother the alien finally returns to Mars). Stories about parental units not required.

Write a sci-fi story about your frenemy Marleen but slyly change her name to Larleen. Write a poignant tale of finding true love with a 7-11 gas pump and a racoon. Rewrite The Outsiders and change all the characters to vacuum cleaners or colanders or talking seat belts.

The best thing about fiction is you design the world, and you make the rules. Class includes writing time and friendly no-pressure feedback.

• Download your syllabus and materials list here.

• If one class is postponed due to weather or unforeseen instructor circumstances, the rain date is June 5.

Open Studio time is included with registration. Open Studio allows currently enrolled students to work on their projects in Oklahoma Contemporary’s studios outside of class meetings. Availability varies weekly, and times are posted outside each studio.
