Discover the art and history of woodland quillwork as it relates to the Anishinaabek. In this live, online workshop, you'll learn how to harvest a porcupine, remove the quills, and how the quills are prepared and sorted by size. Participants will also learn how and when to harvest sweetgrass and birch bark as well as how these natural materials are prepared for use in woodland quillwork. Participants will be shown the tools needed for woodland quillwork. Finally, participants will learn basic quilling techniques using natural quills and will have the opportunity to make an ornament using their new knowledge on woodland quillwork. All tools and materials are labeled in Anishinaabemowin and are included in the cost of tuition. The cost of the included kit ($40) is non-refundable upon registration. Please note that this workshop will take place over Zoom. Time for independent work and breaks will be provided throughout the course. Registration closes Monday, October 5th.
