Camp Contemporary: Spring Break | March 15-19, 2021
Member registration opens Monday, Feb. 1 at 10 a.m.
General registration opens Monday, Feb. 8 at 10 a.m.

Get your kids out of their online rut and into something creative this spring break! Camp Contemporary’s March options will be held in person in our socially distanced studios and across our campus. To ensure a fun, engaging and safe environment, each camp -- led by professional local teaching artists and studio assistants -- will be limited to 10 students. As part of the week’s experiences, campers will take a Gallery Guide-led, interactive tour of the Ed Ruscha: OKLA exhibition. Make this spring break one to remember: Register your young artist in Camp Contemporary!

Your and your child’s health and safety continue to be our first priority. Spring campers and staff (along with all visitors to our facility) will be required to wear masks, to frequently wash/sanitize their hands and to socially distance to the greatest degree possible. Scholarships and Art+Tech Series powered by Google
Camp Contemporary will offer one camp each week that explores the intersections of art and technology and integrates technology into studio projects.

Oklahoma Contemporary is grateful for Google’s ongoing commitment to supporting arts programs that value curiosity, innovation and experimentation. Through initiatives like Art+Tech, we make space for the imaginations of young people to flourish and provide opportunities for injecting more critical thinking, experimentation, communication and collaboration into learning. Google’s support also funds scholarships to ensure that Camp Contemporary is accessible to youth from all socioeconomic backgrounds.

Early registration: Members at all levels will receive early access to registration.

Discounts: Members at all levels will receive a 10 percent discount on Camp Contemporary for children in their household. If you are not a current member, join today.

This spring break, encourage your little artists to explore the great outdoors and the artistic style of former Oklahoma resident and exhibiting artist Ed Ruscha. During this weeklong camp, learning and creating will take place outdoors with spurts of indoor instruction. Campers will use and experiment with printmaking, mixed media and found natural materials to design and take home their own hardcover storybook, complete with unique characters and a peek-through style storyline. Each camper will also receive a children’s book relating to their camp experience to add to their home libraries.

Monday - Friday | 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

There’s no better time to get up and moving! This camp will focus on contemporary dance movements, energic beats, funky moves and lots of laughs! While socially distancing outdoors and in the Dance Studio, campers will learn a choreographed dance from local RACE Dance Collective artist Joshua Okpara. Campers will perform their dance for family and friends outdoors on our North Lawn during Friday’s Camp Contemporary Showcase. To add some flair to the performance, this camp will also incorporate colorful light projections and tech-enhanced costumes. You won’t want to miss it!

Age 7-9 | Colossal Creations | Eric Lyons
Monday - Friday | 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Exploring the work of contemporary artist Ugo Rondinone, campers will together build larger-than-life outdoor installations. Campers will experience the process of making a sculpture from start to finish, including brainstorming, designing, building and overcoming artistic challenges.
Family and friends at Friday’s Camp Contemporary Showcase will be amazed at the colorful colossal pieces their campers created.

They’ll also experience the Japanese ceramic glazing and firing practice known as Raku! To wrap up the week, each camper will glaze several finished ceramic pieces that their families will enjoy for years to come.
