Join artist Rachel Denbow for a live workshop on creating natural color
Could your Thursday night use some color? Join artist and Studio School instructor Rachel Denbow for a free, live virtual workshop on creating and working with your own natural dyes. The low-pressure, hands-on workshop is presented as part of Oklahoma Contemporary's Thursday Night Late, designed to help you explore new perspectives through a mix of on-site and virtual programs, performances and activities inspired by the art on view in our galleries and Campbell Art Park.
"We want folks to have the opportunity to be creative and hands-on and express themselves in one way or another," said Christina Beatty, manager of public programs and community engagement at Oklahoma Contemporary. "We’re really just trying to make it as interesting as possible. We want it to be an alternative to your traditional entertainment for a Thursday evening."
For instructor Rachel Denbow, Thursday night's course on natural dyeing is an opportunity to connect people with more than art form. "This medium is really helpful for making me feel so productive," she said. "On days when I feel like I don't have control over anything else in my life, at least I can I can finish this one task. I can do something creative that keeps me connected to myself. So from a holistic standpoint, it's not just about learning a new skill. I think it's also about investing in your own well being."
Before you tune in on Facebook, YouTube or here on our website this Thursday at 7 p.m. CST, be sure to go over the supply list and prep instructions. And for even more fun at home with homemade dyes, check out the Camp-in-Place #AtHomeArt project from Camp Contemporary instructor Jessica Petrus and our own Youth and Family staff.
