La casa: An Interview with Viviana Kuri

MAZ director, curator and La casa's host welcomes us inside the house

La casa que nos inventamos: Contemporary Art From Guadalajara puts community at the center, inviting visitors into a house built by 19 artists. We sat down with a few of them to explore this moment and their works. (Hear from more in these artist talks.)

A woman in a light blue dress with curly red hair is speaking into a microphone. We can see people surrounding her.

Over the run of the exhibition, we’ll unveil new conversations about La casa, Guadalajara and cultivating creative communities. Up first is the curator herself, Viviana Kuri, director and chief curator of the Museo de Arte de Zapopan (MAZ). Wrangling 19 creatives and crossing international borders, Kuri holds the warmth and stoicism of the house she curated, her passion for these artists and for this collection of art keenly articulated.

“Most of the artists, I’ve been working with them for a long time,” Kuri says. “I know them, I know their work, and, for this exhibition, it was important to choose the work that made sense reflecting what Guadalajara is about.”

La casa que nos inventamos is on view through Jan. 9, 2023. Admission is always free.
