About
Celebrate America's 250th Anniversary with artist Miguel Braceli and the Great Plains Rodeo Association. Please join us for one or both experiences.
Community Flag-Making Workshop | 1-3 p.m.
In the afternoon, guests will create flags from locally grown flora to celebrate the unique communities that have formed in the 250 years since the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence.
Performance and Reception | 6-8 p.m.
Following the Community Flag Making Workshop, Braceli and Oklahoma Contemporary invite the community to observe a performance, featuring members of the Great Plains Rodeo Association that includes the LGBTQ+ cowboys alongside representatives of communities across Oklahoma. The cowboys will carry the community-created flags to a location on the Oklahoma Contemporary campus to be exhibited. The project and performance will be celebrated with a reception with live music and refreshments. This project and performance is a continuation of Braceli’s cross-media research work, Tierras Libres, transforming nation-state iconography into communal symbols based on a social, environmental, and pedagogical approach to the land.
Local flowers for this project are provided by Ralph’s Ranch.
