80" Truncated Triangular Trapezohedron (2024) is an immersive light sculpture by British-born artist based in California Anthony James. Constructed from mirror-polished stainless steel, glass, and LEDs, the work belongs to James’s ongoing Portals / Platonic Solids / Archimedean Solids series, which explores sacred geometry as a visual language connecting mathematics, perception, and spiritual inquiry. Through reflection and repetition, the sculpture creates the illusion of infinite depth, extending its geometry beyond physical space and into an ever-shifting optical environment.

Inspired by Dürer’s Solid, the geometric form depicted in Albrecht Dürer’s Melencolia I (1514), the sculpture draws upon centuries of fascination with proportion, knowledge, and the limits of human understanding. James translates this historic form into a contemporary sensory experience shaped by light and movement. As viewers move around the sculpture, mirrored surfaces and illuminated interiors continuously alter perception, transforming static geometry into an active encounter with space, reflection, and time.
