In this hands-on class, students will explore techniques of handbuilding to create unique, expressive ceramic sculptures. Using foundational methods such as coil building, armature construction, slab building, and molds, students will gain a deep understanding of how to manipulate clay to create complex forms. The course will also include a discussion of historical and contemporary examples of ceramic sculpture, offering students insight into the cultural and artistic significance of this medium. By the end of the class, students will have developed their own clay sculptures, applying a variety of techniques and knowledge they’ve acquired.
